The Western States Endurance Run is a one hundred mile race over rugged mountian terrain with limited assistance. Â It is considered to be the American version of Europe’s Ultra Trail Du Mont-blanc. Â The WS100 is also one of the oldest ultra distance trail runs in the world.
The event takes place in California and will start this year at 5.00 am on the last Saturday of June. Â Runners have until 11.00 am the following morning to finish.
Last years event was interesting because it wasn’t won by Kilian Jornet! instead it was won by Geoff Roes in 15.07:04. Â Kilian is possibly the greatest long distance trail runner on the planet at the moment and has been regularly breaking course records all over the place for about three years now. Â Why he didn’t win last year is a mystery, which will make this years race even more important to watch. Â Another point to note is that Geoff Roes is also on this years UTMB!
