The Grimsvotn volcano in Iceland erupted last Saturday, the ash cloud has extended over Scotland during the early hours of Tuesday morning (24/05/2011)
As a result many flights have now been cancelled from Scotland and it looks like more will be cancelled from England and perhaps mainland Europe.
It is suggested that people flying from airports in the affected countries should check with their airline first before travelling to the airport.

Safety is our number one priority and based on predictions from the Met Office and the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre, Scotland has been identified as potentially having a high density of ash concentration from 07:00 to 19:00 and the North East of England between 13:00 and 19:00 on 24th May 2011. As a result of this the Civil Aviation Authority has declared a temporary danger area over parts of Scotland and the North East of England during these times and we have made the decision to cancel certain flights.
