Marathon du Mont-Blanc

The first of this years trail running events is nearly upon us.  The Mont-Blanc Marathon takes place June on the weekend of 25th and 26th.

There are various events taking place over the weekend including some new ones for this year.

Starting on the Friday afternoon at 4.00 PM is the all new vertical KM, runners leave at 30 second intervals with the prize giving at 8.00 PM.  The route for this event follows the new (and old) lift line from Chamonix to Plan Praz.  The route climbs one vertical KM and covers a distance of 3km.  There are reportedly some sections where the PGHM are providing assistance over the final steep sections.

Saturday sees the Mont-Blanc Cross leaving at 8.30 am.  This course is simply the first half of the marathon course and covers 23 km.  Later on at 10.00 am there is a 10 km race.

On Sunday the main event starts at 7.00 am, the marathon covers 42 km’s 2511 Metres of altitude gain with 1490 Metres of down hill.
