Today was officially the opening day for Chamonix skiing. Â Normally by this time we have been skiing for about 1 month already but due to very few snow falls and very mild temperatures there simply isn’t enough snow on the ground.
The skiing that is actually open is taking place up high on the Grand Montets which is north facing and generally holds snow well. Â They do have plenty of snow making facilities too, but due to the mild temperatures they haven’t been able to make the most of using them.
With nothing really to speak of on the snow forecast everyone in the Alps is holding their breath to see what is going to happen next and most are praying for some of the white stuff to fall out of the sky at some point soon.
When it does start to snow we will let you know about it!
